Divided into topics. c. Made simple and essential. The people issues have to stop and for them to stop, I have to take a risk, but it has to be an intelligent and thought out risk. And I need to acknowledge and accept and face the fact that there will be pain, but the purpose of that pain is to get better and to eliminate or help alleviate future pain for myself and perhaps for other people too. Above all, it is my own defensiveness that is the problem. And the question is, how do I deal with this integrated into a better life and better relationships? And how do I attempt to affect those relationships? with this attitude. Now consider that regardless of what the source of my problem is the responsibility for resolving it is mine. And I can use the foregoing insight in doing that. The next question is, how and how much of this do I take to other people communicate with them and how perhaps do I non defensively communicate with them so as to improve relationships and my own life? Also note that though I said the problem is above all mine, it does not mean that the source part of the source does not lie elsewhere. Again, the question is, how to deal with that, how to communicate it explicitly, implicitly, not at all, and so forth. To boundaries, no debate, silence isolate, add silence or the truth about who he really is and limit phone calls to 15 minutes using an alarm Some combination of silence, isolation, and truth about him and also myself, all in balance with healing. A gaslighter is someone who persistently minimizes a second person for their own benefit that is the gaslighter’s benefit and denies or minimizes or explains or laughs it away when the second person complains and may also become belligerently minimizing at the complaint. The gaslighter may also see imagined criticism on comparison at neutral statements by the second person. In summary, the gaslighter greatly magnifies the imagined speck in the second person's eye, while not seeing the huge and real beam in their own. Now, the gaslighter's behavior may be subconscious or dimly conscious, but there also may be play in that they have awareness, but deny awareness. Cut out most of the content of the other entries dealing with the people in pain issue and just deal with the pain of your own nature and of your chosen and unchosen circumstances on the way to the ultimate, in the immediate, and for the immediate. Accepting and enjoying what pleasure comes along the way. Negative judgments, that is, criticism, should be true and useful, and if made to a person or entity that is not harmful, should also be kind. There is more to it than just that, but if those conditions are not satisfied, all of the judgment does or mostly what it does, he satisfy the ego and perhaps the cruelty help me possibly dishonest critic. Whatever his meaning and intent, it’s in his mind, and not intrinsically about me. Which does not mean it will not hurt, but does mean that I should try and not let it hurt. How? By myself alone? Or by talking to him, which, thus far has been counterproductive. This may be a solution to the problem. He really likes to shit on people. Often times it is coached in terms of morality or kindness, and the morality and the kindness are, in truth, often there, but it is also very often a pretext for shitting on people – an outlet for his sarcasm and presumed superiority. So then it is often more about him than the object of shit. And this is manifest, especially in that there is almost invariably a search for the negative and the manner, the hostile manner, the sarcastic manner, the superiority manner in which the negative is expressed. And although none of this is absolute proof, there is further confirmation in the fact that fairly often the negativity and the manner expression are there without any real content. It’s a personality characteristic for him. And thus, while I have been taking him on good faith as though his negative, hostile comments and his negative kind comments are truly about me, they are not, rather, they are about him and his assumed superiority and his sarcasm, which are probably rooted in and at least subconscious sense of inferiority relating to his upbringing and his interaction as part of the family, which includes mom, but more so dad and myself. That is a sigh of relief. It is good to know and the question is, if and when I confront him on the issues we have or rather I have is this one of the points that I should bring up or perhaps the point? This needs to be integrated with other thoughts on him. Question. Why has it taken me so long to see this? It is in part due to my own sensitivity and security, my negative self-messaging. It is also in part that I tend to take people in good faith. This is true, especially in his case, as he is, my brother, as his family, and therefore, I have taken it for granted that his sole motive and attitude is a combination of lack of self-interest, truth, and the interest of the other, steeped in kindness (these thoughts may also apply at least somewhat to my interactions with others). In thinking on these issues, I recall the time when he was a teenager maybe 17 or 18, we were riding in rickshaws in Kanpur and we saw a man beating his Bullock. My brother turned white in anger, sucking in a deep breath, his lips quivering in rage there is an instant between the perception and the white heat of anger. This is a useful instant, when recognized. For when we recognize it, we can see it hold the immediate progression to anger, expand the instant and hold the instant so that it is more than just an instant, and that space allows reason and calmness to enter, which does not displace the anger but replaces the white heat of an anger by a slow burn which in interaction with reason is productive first of preventing acting out in anger, and second, where relevant, of solutions to the issues that may have caused the anger. And there is some truth regarding this for all passion, which is transformative or fashion into what may be called emotion in contrast to mere passion, where passion is regarded as mere intensity of feeling. But the real lesson here for me, is what I may have learned about myself, and what to do with the personality issues that plague me. I need to think more about this, but here is some preliminary thoughts. First, it takes time and place, and sometimes going through and living with pain to realize what’s going on cognitive emotionally. Second, the learning about space between perception and reaction in between reaction and action. Third, as I already know, how to communicate this kind of thing to other people regarding myself, is difficult for me, but also because the challenges whatever comfortable mess others may have with the established structure of relationships (I need to look up that reference, which is on something like dealing with difficult people). Fourth these are all thoughts toward a resolution, and while there may be some resolution, I ought to remind myself, that the process remains ongoing. The real beginning of the excursionThus, though this is the last full day of this time in the Trinity Alps, the excursion has just begun. The forest is healing, but sometimes one has to go through hell to heal and see the truth. I am 78September 26 – I am 78 at noon today, PST, for it is 12:30 AM in India the time which I was born in 1947. The Way of BeingWhy being—a supplement?1. Being and nonbeing. 2. Knowledge as independent vs interwoven with / part of being. 3. Knowledge as representation vs … 4. System and idiosyncrasy 5. Perfection and ethics as independent vs interwoven 6. The ‘observer’ as outside vs immersed On ethics and meaningIn discussing ethics and meaning, while the analysis may have seriousness the objective discussion, actual ethics and actual meaning, of course should sometimes be serious, but on the whole should be joyful. A healthy life is one witch, we hope, is infused with joy. OK so now we need to make this discussion real. On meaning in the sense as in ‘the meaning of life’TWB – Meaning roughly in the sense of “the meaning of life“. · In this generic and rough sense, intended inclusively, without defining it, perhaps all reasonably aware, thinking adults, have it at least to some explicit degree. · Thinkers, recognizing, and have attempted “high“, “explicit“, “authentic“, and perhaps other articulate and unique senses of meaning. · However, not the sense of meaning be such that not just the authentic or the high have it and significantly enjoy it but but perhaps meaning should be such that it has had by infants, children, adventures, criminals, the mentally ill, the dying and declining, dishonest politicians, academics, and not just people, but also entities such as the world, the experiential universe, perhaps even rocks, mountains, and plants, may have meaning. · Cultures of societies and communities may have meaning – it may be multimodal within a given society, community or even family or a group of friends. · All of these interact in the production of perhaps universal meaning. · It can be dynamic as well as static in negative, neutral, and positive ways. · It could be functional or dysfunctional, that is, thinking, algebraically, positive or negative. · But what is meaning? Some thoughts follow. · That which motivates, give significance, gives reason to live and to live well. · And though we may emphasize the philosophical, the pure, the higher, the unique, the explicit… We ought not to do so exclusively. · Meaning would not be something that occurs in isolation but depends, especially and also on (a) the nature of the universe, that is, metaphysics, seen as including (b) knowledge, psychology, logic, epistemology, human and animal, nature, and reason. The chapter on ‘return’ > the section on ‘universal text’TWB - chapter “return“ section “universal text“. · Today we refer back to thinkers about 2500 years ago, that is, to the earliest written words in philosophy. What if, instead, there were 10,000, 100,000, or 1 million years of written history? In formulating philosophical thought, would it be required to refer to all important thinkers of the last million years? · If philosophical thought continues for another, say, 10,000 years would not referring back, become an impediment to new thought? · What is required? Some of the great philosophers of the future will be summarizers. They will capture the essences of thousands of years of philosophy. This will make for productive new, thinking. This will, of course, not prevent any thinker from referring to the detailed record (and perhaps some kind of systematic databases will be available to help minimize the labor of back referral). The chapter on ‘being’In the chapter on being make a comment on being versus kind of being (or supplement what’s already there). We begin with being rather than kind even though kinds are important and because we are ourselves, we are the ones doing the analysis, we are, as such, an essential and critical kind (but, of course, not necessarily the only essential kind, or the essential kind, as, for example, Heidegger thought to be the case, at least seemingly in Being and Time). To posit a kind of being as the kind is to posit substance, and of course, we are roughly a kind of substance, but to begin with this is to begin with substance, which is what we and Heidegger were trying to get away from. Therefore, we begin with just being, that is, being as being, that is, being as existence– and which is why we define and see being as existence rather than as some special kind of existence, and which does not diminish the importance of special kinds, for special kinds lie within being, but more, understanding and analysis of any special kind is enhanced by the kind being framed by being as existence. And in doing so, we lay a foundation for an ultimate framework, which includes our kind of being as a case, of course, an important case – at least to us. The outline of TWB should include the above point and, by the way, in addition to definitions and results, we also need to write down an outline of TWB. And in that outline the initial chapter on meaning will make reference two kinds of meaning, while noting that its focus is on meaning roughly as in the meaning of being. Economics for TWBPositive economics of negative growth. Politics for TWBThere needs to be a world summit on more than just Israel and Ukraine. It needs to be on all the poverty and suffering in the world. It needs to focus on the entire world moving towards the positive and what that will take. It’s more than just the values problem although it is a values problem. It’s also a problem of economics and political will… Should it be inclusive. The UN is inclusive of world governments, but is it really representative and inclusive? It’s ponderous and in some ways defunct. So should the world summit or organization be a gathering of governments in which a small number of people have the same voice as a large number of people? Should it be some combination of government, the wealthy and the powerful and the people as people. Anyway, there’s a question and the question is, how should it be organized and implemented and are the foregoing elements government the wealthy and the people adequate elements are they even in the right direction. It is something to think about! On argumentThe second kind of argumentation, that is, reasoning among people, may, and does play a role in the first kind of argumentation, which is establishment of fact (look up the Internet and encyclopedia of philosophy on argument). The role of knowledge and experientiality for beingIt is not claimed that human knowledge as humans understand it is essential to all being as we have defined being. However, potential relationship and potential primitive experientiality is fundamental to being. Further, as many thinkers throughout the history of human ideas have pointed out, human knowing, including knowing and intelligibility of the universe and being in general, that is being as we have defined, it, including our being and kind of being, is fundamental to our being and kind of being, and a characteristic, a main characteristic thereof, which raises questions. One, is intelligibility and knowing essential to significant being? And perhaps the answer is yes, though possibly not quite, which raises the question of whether there are higher kinds of being with higher kinds of significance. And in answer, the options are, A, there are no higher kinds. B, there are higher kinds with higher kinds of significance. And C, there are higher kinds, but no higher kind of significance. R. the knowing of the higher kinds is greater in extent and quality than human intelligibility of the universe and knowing, including first, that knowing and being, for that kind are identical. And second, that those kinds know things at a glance which we labor and reason to know. In particular, their being is the whole universe, as is their knowing and perception addendum. Some of the assertions made a above without qualification should be qualified, perhaps qualified, as possible, or maybe, or to receive further consideration, including amplification or other modification, modification, further addendum, some of the claims above, such as that primitive potential experientiality is fundamental to all being are somewhat reasonable on an open metaphysics, but are necessary and follow from real metaphysics as developed in this narrative. Yet another addendum, the kind of being that has intelligibility or being in itself and the universe, is, I think, what Heidegger calls essential being, and definitely what he calls Dasein. About propositional knowledgeRegarding knowledge in the way of being, though the word knowledge may be used for kinds other than fact, such as in the phrase “I know how to walk”, for the purposes of the way of being, knowledge as fact, enables adequate talk of other kinds of knowledge. The Psychology of Worldview or Gestalt Transformation1. Worldviews tend to be stable and more to less real. Stability – equilibrium – is maintained by a. Human psychology (investigate psychologies, e.g., ‘classic’ and five-factor), function and dysfunction b. Experience (‘normal’ and trauma) c. Culture (cult v. open), and d. Community. 2. Dynamics of change—factors may include a. Disturbance of equilibrium, b. Incorporation of what is valid in the old, c. Expansion or contraction, and d. Sustained by (new) community. The Nature of Being and KnowingIn ‘The Way of Being’, being is no more than existence, for (i) this introduces no initial error and (ii) allows for later powerful introduction of characteristics, e.g., of our kind of being (which have to be essential to our kind of being. However, the tradition of being recognizes 1. Intelligibility (which TWB introduces via experience). What is the fact, meaning, and place of knowledge in our daily and larger lives, evolution, and world? 2. That knowing lies on an abstract – concrete continuum, which is non-uniform with respect to perfection on a correspondence picture (with coherence, possibly, as corroboration). On meditation in actionMeditation in action will mean. 1. Carrying the gain from meditation into daily and general affairs. The kind of meditation include · Shamatha or calming meditation · Vipasana or analytic and insight meditation. · Yoga as integrated physical and meditative practice. 2. Meditating while in daily and general affairs… among other things · Mind / no – mind (in balance) · Short breaks for meditation and yoga (see item #1) · … The view of the way of beingRecognizing that any view begins with the form of ones being and the world, and in culture. 1. It attempts to boot strap – that is, not only should its content flow from process or method, so, as far as possible and reasonable, should method itself. 2. Certainty is a value, but for being – while – limited, it cannot and should not sought to be absolute. 3. We know that from some givens – by – abstraction and analysis, that there is significant certainty, even for limited being, and we intend to extend it as far as is possible and reasonable. 4. We fill the gaps in the certain with less than certain knowledge and thought… which reveals values that may inform us that the pragmatic combination of the certain, and the pragmatic is perfect relative to the values, especially the value of the ultimate 5. Which is basis for action… and in which we may find that what we think is our limited being – being with fixed limits – is not fixed after all and is/maybe in process to the/an ultimate (the significance of “an“ is reference to local ultimates On dual doubtConsider two views
Now, which of these two views should we adopt? The conservative doubts the open view while the open in attitude supports and open view and doubts the conservative view. And this attitude of conservatism is fairly common, even amongst those who would be open because even the open are influenced by the carefulness of the every day, and perhaps too much influenced because it shuts us down to what lies beyond the every day – and of course, I mean every day conservatively for it goes up to even the Multiverse. Therefore, we should perhaps have doubt in both directions. On the other hand if we have doubt in both directions, should we not also have certainty in both directions. Perhaps. But that would be paradoxical, would it not? As an aside it suggests the idea of diarrhea, which is the idea of holding the truth and it’s contradiction in mind at the same time not because there are true contradictions in the world the world is, the world cannot contradict itself, but has an attitude to maintain in the face of incomplete knowledge. Now, you might say why not just doubt? And the answer is it’s not only about knowledge, but what is that attitude which makes us and our future the greatest. Thus, generally speaking, dual doubt ought to be advocated for. My view is the open view advocated above. And I hold that view because number one it is consistent with experience and reason and number two there is a proof for it. Therefore, it is at least a strong view. It is also a view which reveals to us our own infinitude and destiny, the details of which I have written about elsewhere. On categoriesCategories are dynamic categories and path and not just dynamic but dynamics (with analogy to physics). On languageIf you ask the question, what is language, the answer often comes in the form - It is a certain kind of symbolic expression and communication. Now, part of that is languages what is meaning and then the problem becomes that what is language is a question of meaning, and that means that you' original conception of language is not necessarily the best conception. It's not necessarily a matter of right and wrong. It's a matter of what is the best conception in terms of getting the best understanding of the world, assuming understanding is what it's all about. So then the question becomes, is art a part of that new conception? Call the language or something else, and so on. On word meaningThe words in the English language are not adequate to all the meanings that English speakers have spoken or written about (also note that even common words, including the cops, do not have the definite meaning in use and application as we often think they do, and as generations of school, boys, Stern, school, masters, and pompous linguistic conservatives think they do). . How is this possible – that is how can one speak of meanings for which there are no words. They speak about them in groups, of words, phrases, and sentences, sometimes literally and sometimes otherwise for example metaphorically and poetically (there are devices for introducing entirely new words, into which we shall not go here). So, certainly there are not English words for all the meanings in the world (and given human limitation,, this is likely true, even if we consider all languages take it together). What is meaning anyway – that is a an issue to be spoken of in another place (do we have defined meanings and grammars, there is no proof that they are adequate to all meanings, even though we sometimes think they might be). but when we speak, we tend to be limited to the words of the language, therefore when we conceive, uncommon Meaning, we must use phrases, or for convenience use new, or common words for the variant meanings. And if you think this is advanced, it may be, but it is remarkable that the Navajo speakers, advanced, or otherwise, when they encountered and negotiated with Western civilization moving West word, they would begin with precise definitions. Western writers have remarked upon this with admiration. On ‘God’So then – What is the meaning of “ God”? I written on this elsewhere where I have explained a meaning and why it is a robust meaning– with proof and doubt. So, I shall not go into it again here at this time. But I shall say that whatever God is, it is not just a state, but it is also a process which is all around us but more we are part of it all proceeding toward peak Being which we shall all become, and we already are were we to see with our limited knowing. And, whatever the concept of God is it is not supernatural. It is not of another plane. In the idea of which I write, there are no planes, there are no substances, such as matter or mind or spirit, everything falls under the idea of being or existence, which trivial do it may sound, is found to be immensely, powerful (there are, of course, what we find to be the known in the unknown). It is experiential in process with two sides, which may be labeled the receptive and the mental or subjective, and the material or objective, which are in other words, respectively “the experience of“ and “the experienced“ which are related by or part of (the) experience (itself). Naturally, this entails that death, while it must be real, is not absolute. That is, upon death something like the following happens – there is a diffusion into background being (existence), from which we emerge again (remember that in non-existence, an eternity, and a moment are the same), and though we may not experience knowledge of and relations among the emergents (which include all human beings), we may conceive those relationships, and conceivably see them through meditation and experience them by putting meditation into practice, they are experienced by us in our higher states which include the peak states. these thoughts are not entirely new, and the closest writing which I am aware is the Advaita (non-dual) Vedanta, which is rich in intuition and insight, but lacking, improve, equivocation, and doubt (that is, that doubt which may make us weak, but may also give us strength). Given the forgoing thoughts, and various connotations of the word, God, as the creator, as remote, as punishing as rewarding, as merciful as cruel as the Trinity as the unity and so on, perhaps we ought not to use that word at all. The word ‘Brahman’ (not Brahma of the (Hindu Trinity) of Indian philosophy might be closer, but that philosophy also uses the word, ‘ that’, as in the phrase ‘ thou art that’, which may be less susceptible to corruption from common connotations.
