Application for the position of Associate Engineer
I had been aware of the opening and had been
planning to submit an application when I received an invitation to apply. The
purpose of this letter is to express my interest working for Humboldt County as
an Associate Engineer.
What would I bring to this position? I itemize some
qualities below.
§ Communication: I communicate and interact with people well. I successfully work in environments where there is potential for tension among different individuals and have been cited as bringing calmness and efficiency to such situations. I work well with the public.
§ Learning: I have a long track record of being able to assimilate new ideas, skills and techniques. This includes the large scale as well as minor day-to-day topics.
§ Engineering: I have an excellent foundation in basic engineering – this includes the core engineering disciplines and design and drafting. I have a broad range of advanced engineering skills. Some idea of the topics is in the enclosed application form under the employment history. I understand the basic concepts of structural analysis and material properties. It is necessary to state that I do not have significant experience in public works. I believe that the existing engineering base combined with my ability to learn and analytical skills are an appropriate compensation.
§ Work: I have the ability and tenacity to work hard on projects. I have a track record to demonstrate this. I expect adequate recognition and facilities to support my work.
§ Analytical skills: this is an area of excellence. I have extensive experience with analytical engineering including the use of computers. I have the ability to develop computational tools based in my knowledge of the mathematics of computation and programming. I have publications that demonstrate my analytical abilities. My faculty advisor [University of Delaware] once said informally, that my strength includes analytical skills and a firm foundation in the real world.
§ Imagination: I would bring vision to my work.
In summary I would state that my abilities are
balanced. I understand and cultivate the large picture of any work and am also
good at details and hands on work.
Sincerely,
Anil Mitra
