PLANNING AND PREPARATION

1 Stage 1. Identify and List Problems, Objectives, Goals, Resources

...and information sources...possible process of realization

1.1 Early Preparation: Person, Place and Arrangements

With who, where, how!

1.2 Early Planning: Objectives and Needs

1.2.1 Start

Begins with - previous Journey...initial concrete ideas nine to six months2 ahead...allows processing to become aware of some needs

1.2.2 The Basic Question

What is the basic concept of J 98...mesh with general process, goals? Wilderness, B/E, placement search, combine with J99 or J year?

The journey for 1998 is similar to the fall journeys I have done since 1985. It is a time for renewal - of my personal energy and freshness toward life...and for the goals and ambitions of my life. The objectives are 1. Nature: Being in nature, observing, physical action and body, physical objectives...and relax, enjoy sun, nature, health...and 2. Being and Its Elements - my fundamental projects...these include dynamics of being, reality and vision in nature...and it is a time for inspiration, reflection, elaboration and process toward production and achievement on my fundamental goals, objectives and projects - Being and Its Elements: a Personal and Universal Account - redefinition and delineation for the coming year or more...in this case it is more. I begin to bring these objectives into focus from six to two months ahead

[Of course, there will already be explicit and percolating ideas from the previous journey and my life. At about six months ahead, I have worked on the ideas and inspiration from the previous journey and will have a conception of the reality of the previous ideas, of problems...and so am in a position to begin thinking concretely about the upcoming journey. There may be some considerations, especially if I identify significantly new needs - a new place, a cooperative journey... - that require earlier preparation.]

1.3 Objectives of the Planning Process

Since I have done this so many times a format or template of objectives, preparation and journal has evolved Relative to this a number of objectives arise. The first objective is to review what is new and what changes are going to be made to the kinds of objectives and the template

What is the Journey for 1998 going to be? A wilderness journey? Beyond J98?

What is new this year: Being and Its Elements and planning...B/E is the new version of EML etc. and is much more focused, whole, integrates everything from the past and defines ambitiously and programmatically the future...and the structure and planning are organized at the highest level...of course, there is much to be done

The second is to identify the specific objectives for the trip. The main new specific objectives are [1] work on the structure and format of B/E and its components, and [2] preparation for the next phase of work of B/E...experience, writing and social action...and it appears that this will require, as a first step, appropriate placement

The third is the planning and preparation function - making arrangements, making sure gear and transportation are available and in working order. Finally there are special objectives. One goal is to formalize and then automate the template of objectives, preparation and journal

1.4 Resources

The resources are previous planning as a template; gear and transportation; vacation time from work; finances to maintain and acquire gear and to buy supplies; persons who may travel with me or provide assistance; agencies that may provide information. Since my Journeys are ongoing, the resources to be identified are replacements and new needs that have come up from the previous journeys

2 Stage 2: Allocate resources...includes planning the plan

...and review, modification and upgrade of planning principles as necessary

About two or more months to a month ahead

2.1 Begin to think about a schedule and time for detailed planning and preparation

2.2 Implement modifications to planning principles and methodology

Some may have been considered at stage 1

...for the journey, the itinerary is the tool or template

4.1 Itinerary and contacts
