The foundation of the journey is in knowledge and action understood through metaphysics. There is no given at which it is necessary to start or found the journey. However, it is convenient to start with knowledge as a key to what is possibility and how the possible may be achieved

Topics include the possibilities of being and of human being, the feasibility and ethics of transformation. While the only impossibilities are those that are contradictory, not all possibilities are equally feasible or good. The concepts of knowledge, being, mind, universe, possibility and necessity receive a logical foundation. The foundation is logical or necessary in that it is founded in [the concept of] nothingness and is, therefore, not contingent. There is a foundation of cosmology with possibilities for foundations of the theories of theoretical physics

Experiments in the Transformation of Being

The second phase takes up the actual transformations of being. Acquisition of knowledge is itself a transformation but the experiments go beyond that to consider all transformations of the being itself. A number of classical disciplines are considered: science and the modern academic disciplines; the shamanic vision-quest; dreams as a source of vision, hypnosis; and yoga, meditation and mysticism. These systems are bound together in the Dynamics of Being that is developed in the text. The dynamics is an original and general approach based in insight into and experiment with the limits and the nature of limits. The arenas for the experiments include home and wilderness and are taken up in a part on the Journey. A detailed list of experiments is given and a complete but otherwise minimal set of experiments is described. The set is complete in that it covers the range of possibilities of being

Variety of Being

The Variety of Being

The variety of being is considered in the third phase. The greater the variety, the more secure is our actual understanding. Understanding is actual when it is based in actual being[s] in contrast to necessary but conceptual understanding. In this phase I consider possible and hypothetical being and take up machine being / mind and intelligence. There is a brief outline, enhanced by the understanding of mind / being developed earlier, of the concepts of machine or artificial intelligence. The main arena of influence, taken up in the final phase, is society which may be considered to be a kind of being. Here, I discuss influence, charisma and patriarchalism – charisma is influence based in the individual while patriarchalism is influence that is based in established institutions. I take up, first, kinds of change in society and the affairs and existence of nations. The theaters and platforms of change are considered next.
